COURSE OVERVIEW // Having completed their fundamental classes is the principles of 2D design, and both digital and comprehensive production, students in this first studio class practice what they’ve learned as well as focus on the practice of design methodology. Using a process called the 4D’s, students are challenged to use this 4-step process to find the story within a personal topic that will serve as a successful connection to their intended audience. The four phases include Discovery (research), Design (Concept Generation and Analysis), Develop (exploration of layouts) and Deploy (final solutions and application to media). During this course long project students were given the opportunity to work directly with the Creative Director of Origins, a division of Estee Lauder, on materials for their celebration for Earth Day. Students completed the identity for 2 product promotions developed for the program, and applied them to package design and national advertisement, and store interior and exterior environmental graphics. Final work included a digital presentation showing all phases of development for class presentation.
