COURSE OVERVIEW // Having completed their fundamental classes is the principles of 2D design, and both digital and comprehensive production, students in this first studio class practice what they’ve learned as well as focus on the practice of design methodology. Using a process called the 4D’s, students are challenged to use this 4-step process to find the story within a personal topic that will serve as a successful connection to their intended audience. The four phases include Discovery (research), Design (Concept Generation and Analysis), Develop (exploration of layouts) and Deploy (final solutions and application to media). During this course long project students complete the design of the graphic standards for a museum exhibit, and apply them to exhibition design, environmental graphics, narrative literature and a 3D memento of the exhibit. Final work included a digital presentation showing all phases of development for class presentation, as well as work in context and comprehensives.
